In a thriller the Dublin Pubcrawlers staged a dramatic comeback over the
Tampico Stogies winning by a score of 4 to 3 at the ballpark.
Dublin had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs.
After two were out Brad Ausmus initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a
walk. Vernon Wells stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an error.
Brandon Inge then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Carlos
Quentin was up next and he laced a single making Dublin the winners and
sending the 35,923 fans home happy. Both teams totaled 5 hits on the
afternoon.
The victory went to Octavio Dotel(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
The loss was charged to Manny Corpas(0-3) in relief. Adam Smith was in great
spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after
the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I
know how my counterpart, Mike Aldrich, feels right now - and it's not very
good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
